Strolling Magic FAQ

What is Strolling Magic or Strolling Mentalism?

Hire a strolling magician or mentalist to entertain your guests in a really special and memorable way. A strolling performer interacts with your guests close up by roaming through your event and approaching small groups doing multiple short shows with a high level of engagement. The magic happens very close to them, often in their own hands. This type of entertainment is really memorable. It helps to break the ice and give guests a shared experience to connect with each other around. A skilled and experienced magician or mentalist knows who to approach, at what time, and for how long to stay with them so that more of your guests get to experience the magic and enjoy it as much as possible.

When is the best time to have strolling entertainment?

Strolling entertainment is very flexible. It can be done in most environments, however it’s best to start it a bit after the event starts instead of right when doors open. Entertainment that adds ambiance like music is great to start at the beginning, but 15 to 30 minutes after guests first arrive is better for entertainment that involves interactivity like magic or tarot card readers. Guests typically need a moment to settle in when they first arrive to use the restroom, find their friends, grab a drink, etc. Strolling magic or mentalism goes great during the cocktail hour before dinner. It can work when appetizers are being served as well but it’s better to not do it during dinner so the guests can enjoy their food and the magic on their own without each experience pulling their attention.

How does strolling differ from a show?

With a show, everyone goes to one place and usually sits together to watch one performance. With strolling, the performer brings the magic to the guests and meets them where they are. Strolling doesn’t need a stage, special lighting, music cues, or a microphone. The performer doesn’t need any equipment to load in and they typically perform only with what they carry on them. This doesn’t mean it’s any less entertaining. In fact strolling is so popular because close up magic or mentalism is some of the strongest and most memorable entertainment your guests can experience.
